Electric Fuel Battery Corporation - Zinc-air Batteries, Rechargeable Batteries, Chargers and Battery ElectronicsThe Electric Fuel Battery Corporation (EFBC) develops and produces high-end primary and rechargeable batteries, associated chargers, and battery electronics for the military. EFBC has expertly developed innovative portable power solutions for the military, and is the world-recognized leader in high-power zinc-air technology. It is ISO 9001-2000 certified, the only company to possess a NSN number for zinc-air batteries, and the sole supplier of zinc-air technology to the US military. ZINC-AIR BATTERIESZinc-air batteries are renowned for their light weight, low cost, and inherent safety in storage, transportation, use and disposal. Zinc-air batteries can provide substantial cost savings and also minimize the environmental impact of spent batteries. The danger of explosion is significantly lower than in any other battery, and zinc-air batteries therefore require no special care in handling. Just some of the military applications zinc-air batteries successfully power are:
BA-8180/U ZINC-AIR BATTERYThe BA-8180/U is a high-quality zinc-air battery with the NSN number 6135-01-500-0572. It weighs 6.2lbs (2.8kg), and is 11.5in x 7in x 2.4in (29.2cm x 17.8cm x 6cm) in size. The BA-8180/U has a capacity at C/55 of 60Ah, a nominal voltage of 14V or 28V, an energy density of 320Wh/L and a specific energy of 320Wh/kg. There is a wide variety of interface adapters for the BA-8180/U battery. These provide effective cohesion with a number of military applications, including the SINCGARS radio battery-box, SATCOM/HF radios, Javelin CLUs, ACADA chemical detectors, MBITR AN/PRC-148 radios, and notebook computers. BA-8140/U ZINC-AIR BATTERYWeighing a mere 3.2lbs (1.45kg) and 11.5in x 3.8in x 2.4in (29.2cm x 9.7cm x 6cm) in size, the EFBC BA-8140/U zinc-air battery has a NSN number of 6135-01-517-0952. The BA-8180/U has a capacity at C/30 of 30Ah, a nominal voltage of 14V, an energy density of 295Wh/L and a specific energy of 330Wh/kg. Additional extras include an interface for MBITR AN/PRC-148 radios. MILITARY BATTERIES AND CHARGERSThe batteries and chargers EFBC supplies include:
The batteries are available in an extensive range of chemistries, such as lithium SO2, lithium MnO2, zinc MnO2, lead acid, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion and lithium polymer. Our comprehensive in-house capability provides a wide range of services, including cell selection per application, pack and cell design, battery electronics design, smart charger design, assembly of batteries, chargers and electric circuits, and environmental testing at our qualification laboratory. LITHIUM MANGANESE DIOXIDE BATTERIESEFBC produces four high-quality lithium manganese dioxide batteries. The available voltage ranges between 13.2V and 29.7V (for OCV maximum), giving final voltages between 7.5V and 19V. Nominal capacities range between 1.2Ah and 2.4Ah. EFBC's lithium manganese dioxide batteries operate, in charge mode, at temperatures from 0°C to + 50°C, and from -20°C to +55°C when in discharge mode. MILITARY RECHARGEABLE BATTERIESSix rechargeable batteries, five of lithium ion and one of nickel metal hydride, are also supplied by EFBC. The available voltage ranges between 12.3V and 16.8V (for OCV maximum), with final voltages between 8V and 11V. Rated capacities cover an extensive range from 3500mAh to 13Ah. EFBC's rechargeable batteries operate in a variety of temperatures. Charge mode operating temperatures range from 0°C to either +45°C or +50°C, and when in discharge mode the batteries can operate either between -20°C to +55°C, or -30°C to +60°C. MILITARY BATTERY CHARGERSEFBC supplies high-quality chargers for all these rechargeable batteries. EFBC battery chargers function at rates of up to 2A per channel. They are fully-functional even in humidity of 95%, at altitudes of 30,000ft, and in any temperature between 0°C and 45°C. They can be safely stored at heights of up to 55,000ft, and in temperatures anywhere between -40°C and +65°C. MILITARY BATTERY ELECTRONICSEFBC also supplies high-end battery electronic circuitry to top OEMs. Products include state-of-charge indicators, battery control panels and monitoring and safety circuits.
