C.E. Niehoff - Heavy Duty Brushless Alternators

C. E. Niehoff & Co. was founded in 1923, it is an employee-owned American company staffed with between 200 and 499 workers. It has become a leader in the design and manufacture of heavy duty brushless alternators.

The absence of brushes and slip-rings yields the highest reliability for heavy-duty applications. Brushes and slip-rings are subject to wear and to frequent replacement; their elimination extends service life.

The high efficiency of C. E. Niehoff’s (CEN) unique design requires less engine horsepower and fuel to produce the high output required in the emergency vehicle, railroad, bus, and military markets.

HEAVY DUTY BRUSHLESS ALTERNATORS

Our brushless alternators are designed with the most demanding applications in mind, to minimize your downtime and maximize your operating efficiencies. Models are customized for niche markets with a wide range of output capabilities and a variety of market specific features.

CEN alternators are designed to withstand chaff, dust and corrosive agents of agriculture, construction, marine and mining environments. The brushless design eliminates internal arcing making it ideal for operation in volatile environments.

Standard products range from 50A to 600A in a variety of voltages. Features also include:

  • Stationary field and stator windings
  • High efficiency, high temperature insulation and coating
  • Copper and brass output terminal
  • Steel shell
  • Heavy duty bearing systems
  • Air-cooling systems
  • Inherently balanced rotors and coatings to protect against vibration, corrosion and contaminants

Dual-voltage operation, overvoltage cut-out, load dump protection, reverse polarity protection, and EMI suppression, originated as specifications in military applications and have now become popular features in our commercial line. These high-tech capabilities have earned CEN a reputation as an engineering innovator; anticipating future requirements and designing for tomorrow’s demands.

MILITARY BRUSHLESS ALTERNATORS

Our extensive experience in supplying military and other special requirement customers is the core of the advanced technology of our entire line of alternators. CEN is the principal supplier of heavy-duty military alternators into US and UK markets, supporting the product through design, development and service-life stages.

CEN products are specified on most land-based armoured vehicles such as BAE Systems Land Systems AS90, Alvis Stormer, MOWAG Piranha, Singapore Technologies Bionix, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, HMMWV, CV90, MLRS, FMTV and United Defense vehicles.

Niehoff products are also use extensively as auxiliary power units (APUs) for silent watch, forward observation vehicles and command post vehicles.
