Bren-Tronics - Military Batteries and Charging Systems

Bren-Tronics is the largest USA manufacturer of military rechargeable batteries, chargers and portable power supplies. Bren-Tronics main products are the major power sources and charging systems used in portable applications by the US armed forces, NATO and other friendly countries' armies, all major international military contractors and in various industrial and commercial applications.

FIRST MANUFACTURER OF LI-ION MILITARY RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

In 1995, Bren-Tronics, a promoter of Li-Ion batteries in all portable power applications, won the first 'next generation' multiyear battery / charger contract with the US Army with the specific goal of updating, modernizing and systematizing the main military batteries. The second contract, called 'Omni' continued the initial improvements:

  • Introduced the battery State Of Charge (SOC) display.
  • New user-friendly smart charging systems
  • Qualified and fielded the first Li-Ion military battery
  • Converted to Li-Ion all major military batteries

BB-2590 AND OTHER RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

The Bren-Tronics rechargeable batteries are more a sophisticated electronic power system than what we used to call a battery. Bren-Tronics developed the popular XX90 military battery format by improving the electronics, safety and cycle life and by changing the chemistry from the BB-590, Ni-Cd to BB-390, Ni-MH and further to the BB-2590, Li-Ion battery.

Below are some of the most popular batteries. If you want to see the full Bren-Tronics product line and get more information regarding the company please visit our website.

Lithium-Ion batteries

  • BB-2590/U
  • BB-2800/U
  • BB-2600A/U
  • BB-2847A/U
  • BB-2557/U
  • ALI-142
  • ALI-143

Nickel-metal hydride batteries

  • BB-390B/U
  • BB-388A/U
  • AA-80R

Nickel-cadmium batteries

  • BB-590/U
  • BB-586/U
  • BB-503A/U
  • BB-287

Note the most of the major manufacturers of various equipments are waving the product warranties if recommended Bren-Tronics batteries and charging systems are not used to power their applications.

PP-8498/U SOLDIER PORTABLE AND OTHER BREN-TRONICS CHARGERS

The Soldier Portable Charger (SPC) PP-8498/U (BTC P/N 70801-1) is a state-of-the-art, high performance lightweight portable charger designed for field or shop usage. The SPC typically charges up to eight batteries in approximately eight hours.

The SPC is universal by design, readily usable with either AC or DC input power – whichever is most convenient for the user. The universal AC input fully allows 90VAC - 260VAC and 47Hz - 420Hz operations without any adjustment or user intervention. Additionally, the DC input power permits a range of 22VDC - 28VDC, standard on most military vehicles.

The SPC is adaptive by design, microprocessor controlled and is presently programmed to automatically charge over ten different battery types. With the appropriate battery adapter, however, it can be readily reprogrammed via RS232 software upgrade port in the field to charge a countless number of additional battery types and chemistries including: nickel metal hydride, nickel cadmium, lithium ion, and lithium polymer.

PP-8481 A/U VEHICLE MOUNTED CHARGER (VMC)

The PP-8481 A/U Vehicle Mounted Charger (VMC) allows the complete charging of several different types of batteries while the vehicle is in motion over any type of terrain. The VMC charges two batteries at a time and holds another two ready for charging. When the first two batteries are fully charged, it automatically switches to charge the second pair. The VMC can charge four BB-390 A/U in about four hours.

BTC-70822-XX SOLAR CHARGER KIT

The BTC-70822-xx solar charger kit consists of a solar panel, a charge controller, and the required adapters and cables in order to efficiently charge Bren-Tronics' rechargeable batteries using solar energy. It is a highly portable charging system that can be used in the battlefield as well as for covert Special Forces operations.

The Solar Panel utilizes high-efficiency trademarked PowerFlex solar cells that are extremely durable, coated to reduce glare reflection and are integrated into modules made from flexible thin-film photovoltaic CIGS material (Copper Indium Gallium Diselenide). The panel will continue to function, at reduced capacity, after bullet penetration damage. The charger controller provides the optimum charging profile for all Bren-Tronics rechargeable batteries. Optional AC and DC power adapters are available to permit charging from AC or vehicle power when solar energy is unavailable.
