INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS FOR MILITARY TRAINING

SMART interactive whiteboards have been adopted by a large number of training establishments across the MoD. These range from initial training at RAF Halton, electrical engineering training at Arborfield or weapons engineering training at HMS Collingwood.

SMART boards now work seamlessly with traditional training applications, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, and the ability to make the training sessions interactive generates immediate benefits to the trainers and students alike. Retention of information is improved due to more active participation and enjoyment in the lessons, while trainers retain historical audit trails of the conduct of the lessons for future improvements.

Managing the transition from normal white-boarding to interactive white-boarding is an ongoing and evolving process. The trainers excel at instruction and subject knowledge, and with this technology, they now have the best tools to achieve their desired outcomes.

Northrop Grumman’s C2PC command and control software and ESRI ArcGIS software have been developed to work even more effectively in conjunction with the boards.

The use of interactive whiteboards allows commanders greater control over the decision-making cycle through collaboration with key personnel. The traditional image of personnel hunched over a paper map or crowded round a laptop is replaced by individual and group annotations on a large interactive display screen.

The utilisation of standardised software and hardware such as SMART ensures that Joint Operational planning can be conducted using trusted, simple and effective solutions, whether that is on exercise in Germany or on Operations in Iraq for example.

SMART BOARD INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS

SMART Board interactive whiteboards continue to improve the way training and briefing is conducted within the military, increasing group collaboration and the retention of information.

The touch-sensitive display connects to your computer and digital projector to show your computer image. You can then control computer applications directly from the display, write notes in digital ink and save your work to share later. Maps, images and even live or recorded video can be annotated while creating a detailed audit trail of the decision making process.

SMART Boards are available in both front and rear projection versions.

SYMPODIUM DT770 – DESKTOP INTERACTIVE DISPLAY

The Sympodium DT770 holds the same functionality as the larger wall mounted displays, but can simply be placed on a desk or lectern in front of the user. The Sympodium’s interactive screen connects to your computer and shows its image. Using the attached pen provided or simply your finger, you can touch the screen to control applications and write notes. The interactive display is perfect for large or small groups alike.

BRIDGIT DATA CONFERENCING SOFTWARE

With SMART Bridgit data-conferencing software, trainers can conduct simultaneous training from one location with other bases anywhere in the world. Both locations are able to view and annotate the information in real-time, across a secure 168-bit connection. Sharing voice, video and data, the software can be used in any number of environments to distribute information. It’s quick, easy and completely secure!
