Mobile Rugged Technologies - Harsh Environment Portable Computers and Customizable Enclosures

Mobile Rugged Technologies, a division of FastNet Solutions, Inc., is a developer of custom enclosures and board-level system-integration for use in military, first-responder, and extreme industrial applications and conditions. Designed to function in the harshest environmental and physical conditions, Mobile Rugged® products are specifically engineered to meet the strict and demanding requirements of 'Joint Tactical Radio System' (JTRS) Cluster 5 and IP68 standards.

The patented coating technology used on many of Mobile Rugged®'s product lines provides a tougher and stronger protective finish than that of current enclosures and devices made of aluminum alloys used today. Our resistant-finish spec is: hardness (Vickers) 1300+; thermal properties: heat resistance 3000+ 0 F; break through voltage 800V; corrosion 3000+ hours salt spray).

Mobile Rugged®'s product line includes:

  • Customizable enclosures
  • Ruggedized portable / mobile computers
  • Network and mass storage devices

SUBMERSIBLE RACK UNIT (SRU)

The Submersible Rack Unit (SRU), the enclosure platform of choice for the US military and other harsh environment applications, is characterized by its 'footprint-like' exterior chassis, which is designed to absorb shock and loads that it experiences in the field.

The SRU chassis is environmentally and EMI-sealed to IP68 standard, and is able to withstand water pressure depths up to 150 feet. The SRU has the unique ability to be racked and latch-locked onto other SRU modules (for applications such as servers, workstations, network gear, wireless equipment and power systems), allowing it to be transformed into a small, preconfigured mini-rack system.

MOBILE RUGGED® SERVER (MRS)

Mobile Rugged® Server (MRS) and Mobile Rugged® Workstations (MRW) have been engineered utilizing the SRU chassis and EBX motherboard form factor. This hardware provides a rugged, ultra-high performance, RoHS compliant system that withstands harsh environments and meets the most stringent demands, operating in temperatures of -40°C to +85°C, with extended operating voltages of 6V-36V and 12V-55V.

The MRS is a custom-configured system and includes:

  • Up to 1.6GHz using Pentium M processor
  • Up to 1GB of memory
  • Up to 120GB of SSD storage
  • OS support for Linux® 2.4.18, VxWorks® v5.5.1, QNX® v6.3, and Windows® CE 5.0, XP and XPe
  • Built-in dual gigabit Ethernet
  • Analog and digital I/O
  • Extreme graphics
  • Optional: quick-remove hard drive

There is also the optional side sealed porting module which incorporates traditional standard connectors: DB15 video, PS2 keyboard and mouse, and 2 A USB. The front and rear panels' interfacing ports mate with PT bayonet connectors.

PERSONAL WEARABLE DEVICE (PWD)

Mobile Rugged® Technologies' Personal Wearable Device (PWD) enclosure is engineered to be easily configured to meet the needs of wearable electronics. Its modern, cutting-edge design makes the PWD lightweight and durable, easily posing as a wireless router, video / audio transmitter, wearable computer, personal digital-assistant and power-source devices.

Made from treated aluminum or magnesium, the PWD can meet IP68 standards (water pressure up to 20ft in depth). Included as standard on the PWD is a water-sealed, removable battery pack which can be removed for replacing or recharging. The standard batteries for the PWD are the BP2500, which supplies 7.5V at 2.5Ah, and the BP5000, which supplies 3.7V at 5Ah.

For ease of connectivity, the PWD incorporates three top PT bayonet-style built-in connectors, one sealed rotary selection-switch, a protected power switch, a side monitory status switch, a status display, two bottom-porting PT bayonet connectors, and a battery pack.

EX-PDA

Mobile Rugged®'s Ex-PDA is completely insulated against the effects of rain, snow, wind, dust, shock and submersion in water. This personal digital assistant is engineered to withstand considerable abuse while operating for extended periods of time.

The Ex-PDA is designed around a pocket PC motherboard, and has all the characteristics of the PWD. It uses the BP5000 battery pack, giving it the capability of extended operation time (over a week in the field on a single charge). Built 'ready for battle,' it comes with many military options, including wireless communication, audio-headset connection, and multi-power sources via bayonet connectors.

These devices are targeted to a wide variety of military, commercial and first-responder applications where extreme resilience is essential.
