Backplane Systems Technology was established in 1989 to service the needs of systems integrators. Located in Sydney, Australia, it specialises in the supply of high-integrity electronic building blocks for data acquisition, monitoring and control systems.

Multi-functional in-vehicle computer system

The I-VC5 is a multi-functional in-vehicle computer system based on the Intel® Atom™ processor N450 platform. The fanless rugged I-VC5 is a full-featured computer system tailored for in-vehicle applications. It is designed to handle shock and vibration in mobile conditions, specifically inside vehicles. It can withstand harsh environments and operate in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 60°C. The system supports dual display for digital signage advertising outside the car or within the car as an in-vehicle computer screen.

The I-VC5 is designed with intelligent power management that supports 12V and 24V power inputs and is compatible with all types of vehicles, including motorcycles, cars, vans, buses and trucks.

The I-VC5 can be integrated with solutions and tools such as infotainment, navigation, tracking, high-speed 3G internet access, database access, incident reporting and fleet management. It is suitable for use in police cars, fire engines, cabs, couriers and buses and anywhere mobile data terminals are installed. Dimensions of the unit are 207.8mm(W) x 224.7mm(D) x 70mm(H).

The I-VC5 is available as a standard or customised in-vehicle PC option, providing proprietary solutions according to customer specified requirements.

In-vehicle PC with wireless communication

The iKarPC-W08A vehicle PC has a compact 8in WVGA touchscreen with an 800x480 resolution, which is also sunlight readable (brightness 600nits). This capability enables screen content to be easily read even in harsh / direct sunlight. The touchscreen is also equipped with an auto-dimming feature allowing it to automatically adjust the screen brightness to suit the external light intensity.

The iKarPC-W08A utilises the low power consumption of the Intel Z510 1.1GHz processor, making it ideal for in-car and other mobile applications. The unit supports up to 4GB CompactFlash memory and also features an SSD slot for extra storage, both of which make the iKarPC W08A resistant to high levels of vibration.

This in-vehicle PC offers wireless communication over WLAN 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, HSPA / UMTS, GPS and Quad-Band EDGE / GRPS / GSM, all of which ensure smooth data exchange for GPS and internet connectivity. Other features include 1 x RS232/422/485, 2 x USB, 1 x GB LAN and 1 x DB 9 Vehicle Bus Protocol OBD II. OBD II is a diagnostic system which records and displays malfunctions inside the vehicle. It provides an internal communications network that connects components inside a vehicle. It also provides an interface for users to get vehicle data for diagnostic purposes or travel information such as vehicle speed, engine loading, engine RPM and fuel levels.

Rugged embedded controller

The WStrider-200A is a rugged embedded controller designed to operate under harsh conditions.

Its aluminum die-cast enclosure and M12 watertight connector not only provide IP67-grade protection against dust and water but also enables the WStrider-200A to sustain high impact and resist vandalism.

Powered by Intel® Atom™ Z510PT with the US15WPT industrial grade processor and chipset, the WStrider-200A is able to operate in extreme temperatures from -30°C to 70°C. The built-in 802.11b/g/n module with IP67-compliant external antenna provides reliable high speed wireless connectivity.

Rugged wireless server for hardcore mobile applications

The RMB–C1 is a rugged mobile server designed for applications where severe environments and high performance meet. As a member of the CORE Systems™ product line, it tightly integrates the electrical, thermal and mechanical components into a complete system with no compromise to any one segment. The RMB-C1 can be used as a central server, a stand-alone CPU, or a remote terminal.

Additional functionality can be implemented via expansion cards in the PC/104 and mini PCI formats. The RMB-C1’s modularity enables custom functionality with COTS convenience without large up-front costs. It has:

Power supply failure has been eliminated by the best-in-class power supply. It rejects load dumps, repeated transients and over voltage. The marine grade extrusion is environmentally sealed to protect against dust and moisture. The unique thermal design allows for fanless operation over a 40°C to 75°C range.

The RMB-C1 excels in applications for bulkhead mounting on military, heavy equipment and machinery.

Platform and scalable signage players

The SI-18 AMD embedded G-Series platform signage player has a dual-core processor, integrated 80 core directX 11 GPU in processor and supports DDR3 1066MHz memory, up to 4GB. It has mPCIe(x1) slots for WiFi and Bluetooth options, one RS232 serial port with a cable-less and compact design.

The CMI200-952F AMD 780E w/ ATi HD3200-based scalable signage player has Athlon II x2/x4 processors, up to 65W, 128MB DDR3 sideport memory and PWM fan control. It supports 1x serial port, 2x 10/100/1000Base-T LAN, 6x USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, DVI-I, or DVI-D interface, dual display and 1x 2.5in SATA HDD drive bay.
