New Products from Scanfiber

12 August 2008

One of our new and innovative products, Scanshock, a registered product, offers protection against fragments and shrapnel from anti-personnel mines, while simultaneously reducing the impact on body parts on the troops inside a vehicle. Scanshock is a ballistic blanket with integrated special shock-absorbing material, installed in the bottom of vehicles to prevent bones being splintered and pulverised.

Scanshock: second-generation Scantex ballistic blankets

Initially these ballistic blankets were procured for retrofitting in older soft-skinned vehicles (with little or no protection). Orders are increasing, though, and Scanfiber expects to supply Scanshock for heavier vehicles as well. Many European countries are retro-fitting Scanshock in their vehicles. As an example, for a Land Cruiser, the total kit weight rises from 65kg for the ballistic blanket alone, to only approximately 75kg for the whole vehicle.

Scantex ballistic multi-bag: a field fit solution

Scanfiber is also rolling out another new registered product, the Scantex ballistic multi-bag, designed to stop hand grenade and landmine fragments, as well as handgun ammunition. It is effectively an individual protection system that can be carried around as body armour, protect items stored inside, be used as a sleeping bag, or even adapted to carry Scanshock material and used as a mobile seat cover in any vehicle.

Scanfiber exhibited at DESi 2007

Scanfiber exhibited at the 2007 DESi show in London. Through eight highly motivated staff, Scanfiber was ready to serve all potential and current customers who were interested in our company and product line. This year we demonstrated two brand-new products; it resulted in great feedback from our visitors. Present at the exhibition were:

  • Erik B Christensen (managing director)
  • Thomas Hvidtfeldt (sales manager)
  • Merete Pagh (project coordinator)
  • Poul Berg-Mortensen (R&D engineer)
  • Soren Gert Munk (production engineer)
  • Frank Dolberg (area sales manager)
  • Michael Yde (R&D manager)
  • Jann Richard Jensen (sales manager, force protection)

Another highlight was when the Danish Minister of Defence, Mr Søren Gade, visied our stand. Thomas and Frank gave him a demonstration of the two new products. Mr Gade's comment was that they were a "good idea and a great help for our Danish soldiers in the battlefield."

Poul Berg-Mortensen - new engineer for our technical department

In order to strengthen our technical department, Scanfiber has employed a new engineer. Poul is 35 years old, is educated as a marine engineer, and has been a pool service engineer in the Danish merchant marine since 1998.

Fast-growing Scanfiber

For the second time Scanfiber was nominated as a Gazelle company for the second time in 2007, by the Danish business newspaper Boersen. The requirement to become a Gazelle company is that over a four-year period the company must have positive growth of a minimum of 100% in the gross contribution margin. Scanfiber growth in 2007 was 168.9%.
