Scanblast Blast-Protective Sandwich Panels

11 August 2008

Scanblast is a new blast-protective sandwich construction designed to offer ballistic protection for both personnel and equipment against the effects of explosions, by means of:

  • Blast and shock-resistant design
  • Dynamic absorption of the shockwave propagation and shockwave effects
  • Protection and isolation of structure contents from shock effects
  • Protection of contents from effects of fragments (shatterproof), debris and dust

It is particularly successful in protecting personnel and equipment against the effects of bombs and explosions as well as against bullets, projectiles and fragments (shrapnel) resulting from explosions.

Blast and shock-resistant design panels

Scanguard ballistic panels are tested according to international standards, e.g. FB4 according to EN 1522 or STANAG 2920. Various levels are available.

The blast effect is795 kPa, and tested with 5kg explosives directed towards the blast protective sandwich construction at a distance of 3m. Scanguard ballistic panels are combined with a special blast-protection material.

The standard size is 0.6m x 2.4m or 1.2m x 2.4m, and standard panels are 52mm or 41mm thick. Standard panels weigh 68kg/m² or 46kg/m².

Scanblast focus area

Scanblast can be adapted to be secured to an exterior or internal wall of a permanent or temporary structure such as portable building, an office, a container, office accommodation, stores, a command post, an infirmary, a toilet, an embassy, a section separation wall in a building, a private home or bedroom, or to a wall, roof or floor or other part of a motor vehicle.

Flexible and mobile system

Scanblast is relatively simple to install - more tiles can be joined together in different angles - and can be reused in different applications if required, with the material providing excellent protection against ballistic elements and shockwaves and achieving high levels of shockwave damping.
