MTL Group, a Sheffield contract manufacturer specialising in the defence metal sector, has won the Westfield Health Business Growth Award at the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards for the North East and Yorkshire region.
EEF, the Manufacturers' Organisation, presents awards in the categories innovation, enterprise, environmental responsibility and skills development to reward world class performance and celebrate excellence in manufacturing in the region.
MTL Group, which operates from a 129,000ft² manufacturing space in the industrial heart of Sheffield, saw a growth in export sales to £2.4m last year despite the economic climate. The sales growth of almost 700% in three years far exceeded the 20% per annum target. The company employs over 200 skilled workers.
MTL Group will now represent the North East and Yorkshire regions in the national finals to be held in London in February next year.
Chair of the judging panel Steve Evans, Professor of Life Cycle Engineering at Cranfield University, said MTL Group had been selected for the award due to the company's achievement and clear programme planning.
"The panel was particularly impressed with how the company followed rules, took clear steps and identified targets in four-point structure," he said. "MTL Group, along with all other entrants, proved that manufacturers across the UK have a story worth celebrating and many in this region successfully compete on the world stage."
