Benteler Armor Solutions - Engineering and Armor Materials

Benteler Armor Solutions, part of Benteler Automotive, is an international supplier to the automotive industry, and offers solutions for the military environment along the complete value chain from engineering, prototyping, testing and production of armor solutions for vehicle and land system applications. Benteler works with materials such as armor steel, fibres and ceramics, and modules with a combination of these materials.

Security steel for use against mines, blast, KE and artillery

The Benteler security steel BSEC® material family consists of three different grades, BSEC410, 510 and 610, for applications against mines / blast and KE / artillery. BSEC is available in steel plates form 2mm to 22mm. Besides flat plates, material can be formed, so 3D formed parts can be produced. As a result, weight advantages can be achieved and weld seams as weak spots can be reduced dramatically.

Applications for these formed parts include cabin floors, wheel wells, hatches and various covers. Production is based on our hot forming process, where heated sheets are formed and quenched in special tools, so forming and hardening takes place at the same time.

Ceramic and fibre ballistic modules

Besides steel, we also offer ballistic modules, made from ceramic and fibre materials. Depending on the application, modules can be applied stand-alone or in combination with armor steel, for example, to upgrade vehicles to higher threat levels.

Design, simulation, prototyping, testing and homologation

We offer engineering and testing services for military applications from our PDE facility in Helmond, The Netherlands. More than 250 engineers work on design, simulation, prototyping, testing and homologation. The scope of work reaches from component design up to development of complete vehicles and vehicle kits until start of production.

Formed parts, complete vehicle kits, armor steel plates, standard profiles, floor mine protection and fuel tanks

Besides formed parts and complete vehicle kits, which are designed individually for a dedicated application, and armor steel plates in various dimensions, we offer standard profiles with sharp bending radii, only possible through our hot forming technology. Floor mine protection modules belong to our product portfolio, as well as self-healing fuel tanks and systems.
