RUAG Land Systems specialises in the development, manufacture and logistics service of weapon systems, protection, shelters and containers, as well as upgrades in cooperation with the local industry for end customers worldwide.

Products include the M109 SPH upgrade (KAWEST), the 120mm compact tank gun (CTG), the 120mm recoiled mortar system (BIGHORN), the lightweight roof-protection system, ballistic-protection systems, the expandable EMC and ballistic-protected containers. RUAG Land Systems provides lifelong logistics support for all systems.

As a general contractor, RUAG Land Systems develops and supplies all systems, secures their industrial maintenance and repair, and supports the customer during the product lifecycle with spare-parts management. RUAG Land Systems also offers analysis and training and takes care of the correct disposal.

BALLISTIC AND MINE PROTECTION PRODUCTS

Long and varied experience has given RUAG Land Systems outstanding design, manufacturing and testing capabilities for ballistic and mine protection products.

The modular roof protection with optimised weight / protection ratio can be used against bomblets up to a diameter of 40mm, artillery fragments and other threats. The products use the newest technologies and include lateral protection against up to 120mm CE and KE projectiles, minimising the collateral damage through controlled fragment-trajectory.

A mine protection system, consisting of measures both inside and outside the vehicle, provides highest protection levels and has been successfully tested under real conditions. Modern fixation methods prevent the vehicle structure from being significantly affected by the integration of RUAG's mine protection system.

120MM COMPACT TANK GUN

The 120mm Compact Tank Gun has a specifically designed muzzle brake and low recoil. It is suitable for integration into light fighting vehicles of more than 20t, and for upgrading vehicles with existing 90mm to 105mm compact tank guns.

• The required weight and space of the weapon system is almost equal to the 105mm system (gun and onboard ammunition)
• Full compatibility with current and future 120mm ammunition

The design of cradle and muzzle brake as well as the length of the recoil travel may be adapted to the individual characteristics of the overall system. Advanced coating technologies allow the weight of the gun to be adapted to specific needs.

BIGHORN 120MM RECOILED MORTAR SYSTEM

The BIGHORN 120mm recoiled mortar system is suitable for all tracked or wheeled vehicles. Features include:

• High firepower with smooth bore barrel
• High firing-rate with semiautomatic loader
• Onboard navigation and positioning
• Onboard hydraulics and electric power conditioning

A laser gyro-based inertial navigation and positioning system mounted directly on the weapon provides accurate position and gun pointing autonomously during the mission. Vehicles equipped with this 120mm mortar system are highly mobile, and have a very short reaction-time to perform during missions with shoot and scoot tactics.

The recoiled launcher tube can fire all standard and special projectiles, such as STRIX.

For missions in urban areas the mortar can be mounted (e.g. on a vehicle with hatches), and thus hidden.

MODULAR UPGRADE PROGRAMME FOR SPH M109

The modular upgrading programme is now available for any M109 operation. The main assets of this program are increased range, increased rate of fire, greater supply of ammunition carried, extremely-short laying time, a highly-accurate navigation system and an advanced power-supply system.

The new barrels (L47) – which are fully chromium-plated and have a length of over 8m – are a RUAG Land Systems development. With top charges a firing range of up to 40km can be reached.

NAVIGATION AND POSITIONING SYSTEM (NAPOS)

RUAG Land Systems has a long-held and wide-ranging expert knowledge regarding various worldwide navigation systems, as well as the integration of navigation systems. More than 420 systems are in use worldwide.

The installation of the NAPOS allows the howitzer battery to be dispersed over a wider area with single system autonomous operation.

CONTAINERS AND SHELTERS

RUAG Land Systems develops and manufactures special containers and shelters based on customers' requirements. The containers can be delivered as a hull (including AC), or with mission-specific equipment for surgery communications or check point containers, etc. The containers can be designed and tested to fulfil up to 60dB EMC screening capability from 15kHz up to 10GHz.

Based on defined threats, the containers can be equipped with RUAG Land Systems' lightweight ballistic protection modules.
