MOWAG Launches its New Armoured Wheeled Piranha IV 8x8 Vehicle at DSEi London

MOWAG's new development, the PIRANHA IV 8x8 vehicle will have its first public appearance during DSEi in London from Sept. 11th - 14th, 2001. The first prototype, built as a private venture as usually, will be shown and presented during the exhibition to the international press and potential customers. The PIRANHA IV again is the first vehicle of its kind to appear on the world market.
MOWAG is proud to announce the launching of its new PIRANHA IV 8x8 vehicle on the world market during DSEi. The first prototype has been completed and will be shown for the first time to the public on the VICKERS Defence stand. A second prototype is in production to meet the demands for demonstrations and evaluations by potential customers.
After the very successful introduction of the smaller and lighter PIRANHA III to various Armed Forces, including the U.S. Army, MOWAG developed the PIRANHA IV based on the proven technology of the PIRANHA III in order to meet even higher level requirements in terms of ballistic protection, protection against mines, carrying capacity and internal volume.
The PIRANHA IV will complement the PIRANHA III which will remain in serial production for the next at least 10 years. User requirements and available budgets will dictate the type of vehicle to be procured.
Smaller, lighter and cheaper than the German/British GTK/MRAV, but with similar payload, volume and performance characteristics, the PIRANHA IV offers a very attractive alternative solution for the same mission roles and applications. The PIRANHA IV can be used as an APC, Infantry Fighting Vehicle, Command & Control Vehicle, Air Defence Vehicle, etc.
MOWAG can already announce the first sales success of the new PIRANHA IV vehicle due to the fact that VICKERS (VDS) acquired the licence for this vehicle for the territories of Great Britain and South Africa.
