The Al-Thalab Long Range Patrol Vehicle (LRPV) has been conceived as a cost-effective patrol vehicle for internal security, reconnaissance and border patrol forces.
Al-Thalab is a collaborative project between Jankel and the King Abdullah II Design & Development Bureau (KADDB), with whom Jankel has a joint-venture manufacturing facility.
OPERATIONAL ROLES
The vehicle has been designed to fulfil the following roles:
LRPV MAJOR FEATURES
The LRPV is mounted with a safe and comfortable seating area for the driver and commander plus two crew members seated in the rear. As an option, all seating positions are encapsulated within a full Roll Over Protection System (ROPS).
The LRPV is mounted with front and rear weapon mounts for two support weapons. During weapons engagements, a static LRPV provides a stable and effective weapons platform.
Full-range military radio and communications equipment may be mounted on the LRPV. The vehicle is fitted with two antenna-mounting bases, plus power take-off points for the radio equipment.
The LRPV has a large payload and bulk load area, and is fitted with ammunition and equipment lockers that allow the crew to maintain a free and clear work area. The LRPV is equipped to carry approximately 1300kg of load. It is capable of conducting operations over a range of 1,500km without re-supply (with a four man crew for ten days).
It provides high levels of off-road mobility across rugged terrain (comprehensive desert trials have been conducted), and also possesses good speed and agility (dependant on ground conditions).
The LRPV is robust and can operate within remote areas of rugged terrain with limited, or no support for prolonged periods. It is easily maintained in field conditions by basic soldiers who do not have mechanical qualifications or any specialised mechanical training. Mechanical components are of a basic design and not overly reliant on electronic management systems.
At times, LRPVs may suffer damage within the field and may be a substantial distance from workshop support. The automotive and mechanical components are standard Toyota and basic design. LRPV is provided with a battle-field repair kit and tool kit as part of its standard equipment in order to assist the crew with field repairs.
The LRPV is based on the Toyota 79 chassis which is provided with good service backup, including comprehensive spare parts system, in most countries worldwide.
VEHICLE SIZE AND DIMENSION
The LRPV is based on a chassis cab of a Toyota LandCruiser pick up 4x4 specified for extreme climate and physical conditions.
