IWS, part of the DIEHL Group in Nürnberg, is the largest German civil maintenance and repair facility for the German Army, and the sole developer and manufacturer of the STW 90 for the German Army. SYNOPSIS IWS was founded in 1963, and has about 530 employees. The production workspace is 280,000 square foot and a storage space of 53,000 square foot (company and government owned). The company has received ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, AQAP and Mil-Q-9858 certifications. BUSINESS FIELDS The main business fields of IWS are in the support of the US Army and German Army in depot level overhaul, maintenance, repair, modification and modernisation of tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles. We also specialise in the design and manufacturing of military and commercial road tankers and dispensers and special vehicles. SPECIALITIES IWS is a unique state-of-the-art depot-level maintenance facility including CARC painting and sandblast facilities. Since 1998, IWS is the only M1 Abrams transmission (Allison X1100) repair facility and TACOM SRA certified repair facility for the M1 Abrams turbine engine (AGT1500) and M1 generators outside CONUS. To support US Army Europe equipment, IWS entered into several Teaming Agreements with major US OEM's. GENERAL EXPERIENCES Based the decades of experience, IWS has become a liable partner for the US Army and the German Army. More than 23,000 trucks, 4,500 armoured vehicles and more than 100,000 transmissions and 25,000 engines have been repaired and overhauled. Its main programmes for the German Army are related to the AIFV Marder, AVR Lynx, AGPC Fox, M113 APC and as far as truck are concerned Mercedes Benz, MAN and IVECO. Current key programs with the US Army are the repair and overhaul of the M1 Abrams AGT 1500 turbine engine, the X1100 transmission, M113 engines, the overhaul of the M113 APC, the M981 FISTV, the M548 Cargo Carrier, the M577 Command Post vehicles and the overhaul of the Small Emplacement Excavators (SEE) and the MKT Kitchen Trailers. Just recently, IWS was contracted to perform the maintenance, upgrading and modification of the M9ACE Armored Combat Earthmover for USAREUR. PROGRAM RANGEDepending on customer's requirements, IWS can offer the performance of Depot Level Maintenance (DLM) and Inspect Repair As Necessary (IRAN) programs, conversion, modification and re-manufacturing programs, total package fielding, warehousing of parts and rebuilding of parts. QUALITY The IWS quality assurance and environmental control system is certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and conforms to Mil-Q-9858A. In addition NATO AQAP requirements are implemented. IWS is under permanent survey of the German Army’s Control Agency, which also acts on behalf of the Army. In addition IWS is certified for the manufacturing and testing of pressure tanks, for general and ballistic welding, soldering and metalising. Beside the military requirements, all vehicles are manufactured and accepted according to the regulations of the German TÜV and the requirements for the Dangerous Goods Regulations for road transports (GGVS).
