Powerful Less-Lethal Solutions from RUAG Ammotec
17 June 2004 16:02
RUAG Ammotec of Thun/Switzerland completes its range of Less-Lethal Solutions. With its latest Less-Lethal product, the LLW Cracker, the effective agent CS can be brought into closed rooms during interventions. The range now available on the market consists of four different 40mm x 46mm LV grenades plus two throw bodies and a Breaching Cartridge, the latter permitting to open door locks and hinges. The development of the 40 x 46mm LLW Puncter, a K.E. projectile containing effective agent, will be completed in the near future.
Characteristic for non-lethal or less-lethal weapons is that they allow to suppress enemy action without exposing persons to a mortal danger or lasting injuries. The police has been using appropriate Less-Lethal Solutions for many years, and armed forces are starting to resort to them as well. Known and well-established agents are above all tear gas and rubber balls to disperse crowds of demonstrators. Typical applications of Less-Lethal Solutions are UN peace missions, civil wars, demonstrations or police interventions in the presence of innocent bystanders (e.g. when hostages were taken).
A Family of 40mm x 46mm LV Less-Lethal Grenades for All Cases
RUAG Ammotec offers a broad spectrum of products in recyclable PE cases for the widely used 40mm LV launcher. In violent encounters, the LLW Comet fired at a high angle allows to spread the irritant CS over the rioting mob. Both operative range and delay time can be adapted to the customer's requirements. In interventions or for close-range defence purposes the LLW Scatter is suitable, since it permits to use effective agents in powder form (CS, PAVA or OC) at short distances. As an alternative to irritant ammunition it is also possible to oppose violent riots or similar events with rubber ball ammunition. The LLW Rubber can be used from a distance of 10m upwards.
The LLW Cracker is particularly useful for interventions in hostage crises and hold-ups. It permits to transport the effective agent CS into a closed room without actually passing through. The penetrator remains stuck and spreads the irritant in the room behind, whereby it doesn't matter whether a heavy entrance door or the thin wall of a caravan is concerned.
A further suitable product for interventions will soon become available in the LLW Puncter. The innovative concept underlying the LLW Puncter means that the effect of a K.E. projectile is combined with that of an irritant, so that specific aggressors can be stopped.
Throw Bodies for Quick and Simple Interventions
The range of 40mm LV grenades is supplemented by two throw bodies. As the product name implies, the LLW Flash Bang causes surprise and confusion. If appropriate and necessary, irritant can be added to the cargo module on site. Ignition is by pyrotechnical means or by electronic remote control. The LLW Mouse, on the other hand, is rather more suitable for the law-and-order service with conflict potential. This smoke body produces a large, dense cloud of smoke within about 10 seconds. To ensure that it cannot be thrown back it "wriggles" around while generating the smoke.
LLW Entry – the Reliable and Safe Door Opener
The design based on zinc powder enables the safe opening of door locks and hinges. Rebounding is avoided entirely. The LLW Entry 12/2¾in Mag. cartridge has been used successfully by many special units ever since its introduction to the market.
Constant Further Development
The LLW range of RUAG Ammotec is further developed on a permanent basis and supplemented with additional products for special units. The next step is the introduction of the LLW Puncter.
