Rheinmetall Waffe Munition - Medium Calibre Weapon Systems and Ammunition

The medium calibre unit of Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH and RWM Schweiz AG (RWM) is a leading supplier for weapon systems and ammunition. RWM offers automatic cannons, weapon systems and ammunition which cover the full range of present and future threat scenarios and can be deployed from land, sea or air. The main product groups encompass vehicle-mounted armaments, aircraft cannon systems and naval guns, including ammunition as well as ammunition for air defence systems.

MEDIUM CALIBRE WEAPONS SYSTEMS

Automatic Cannon MK 30-2: The MK 30-2 automatic cannon is used against land, air and sea targets at distances of up to 3,000m with maximum effectiveness. The cannon is fully gas operated with a floating receiver assembly to reduce recoil forces to a minimum. It provides an extremely high rate of fire of up to 800rds/min and uses the most powerful calibre of 30mm x 173. The MK 30-2 is the main armament of the Spanish infantry fighting vehicle Pizarro and the Austrian Ulan vehicle and can also be integrated remote-controlled weapon systems.

Automatic Cannon MK 30-2/ABM: The MK 30-2/ABM was developed as the main armament of the new German PUMA infantry fighting vehicle. Air burst munition (ABM) rounds feature a programmable ignitor. The best possible combination of a high rate of fire and state-of-the-art ammunition technology makes the MK 30-2/ABM an uncompromising and reliable weapon system which can be deployed universally. Within a range up to 3,000m, the MK 30-2 delivers a maximum of effectiveness against land, air and sea targets. Combining high performance with latest ammunition technology, the MK 30-2/ABM offers long-term dependability even under punishing field conditions.

Recoilless Automatic Cannon RMK 30: The RMK 30 is the first recoilless automatic cannon in the world. High firepower, low mass, compactness, rigid and simple design as well as high operational availability are the main features of the RMK 30. High integration flexibility allows the RMK 30 to be used as combat mission kit on almost any kind of light military vehicle or as main armament for modern infantry fighting vehicles.

MEDIUM CALIBRE AMMUNITION

Air Burst Munition / ABM: ABM rounds, based on the NATO-qualified Ahead technology, feature a programmable ignitor with compensation for variations in projectile velocity to ensure precise down-range payload release. ABM is the ideal solution for modern vehicle armament, as well as for terrestrial air defence and naval applications.

APFSDS-T

This new generation of armour piercing sub-calibre ammunition was developed to defeat monobloc or spaced armour targets found on the battlefields of today or the foreseeable future. The ability of the ultra low drag tungsten alloy long rod penetrator to defeat RHA and HHA armours, even at very long angles of obliquity at extended ranges, makes APFSDS-T the essential choice for vehicle armament.

FAPDS-T

The "Frangible" concept was developed to defeat both "hard" and "soft" targets, without recourse to the use of conventional high explosives and fuses. Based on the well-proven Oerlikon Contraves sub-calibre technology, employing an in-situ plastic-moulded tungsten alloy core with integrated driving band, the FAPDS ammunition has a very high muzzle velocity. As a result, a flat projectile trajectory and a short flight time significantly increase the hit probability.

TRAINING AMMUNITION

Also available is a wide range of training ammunition with a ballistic match and specific features according to customer requirements.
