Martin Electronics, Inc (“MEI”), of Perry, Florida, a company within the Chemring Ordnance Business Unit, announces the award of a five year contract from the US Army for the M201A1 Smoke Grenade Initiating Fuze and the M208 Smoke Pot Initiating Fuze with a maximum value of $27.8 Million if all options are awarded. The initial order placed is valued at $4.2 Million with deliveries beginning in the fourth quarter of 2010. This award ensures that MEI will be supplying 100% of the US Army’s requirements for these two tactical fuzes through 2014 and will provide continuous employment to approximately fifteen people at the Perry facility.

The US Army uses the M201A1 and M208 initiating fuzes in their Load, Assemble, and Pack operations of the M18/M83 Smoke Grenade and the M8 Floating Smoke Pot, respectively, at the government owned and operated arsenals. Richard Gardner, President of Chemring Ordnance commented, “The US Army’s award of 100% of their requirements for these two tactical fuzes is a direct result of superior teamwork and excellent product performance demonstrated under the last multi-year contract for these two fuzes. This award positions MEI to remain the world’s leading producer of pyrotechnic fuzes for many years to come.” The M201A1 and M208 fuzes are just two of many defense products produced at MEI for the Department of Defense. MEI is part of the Chemring Group, PLC which generated over $500 million in sales in 2008. Chemring is a leading producer of military pyrotechnic signal, markers, and flares in the world.
