From the Battlefield to the Rugby PitchFAUN Trackway
A little friendly competition is good for the soul and at FAUN Trackway we're proud of our partnership with the Royal Engineers Rugby League team, who have completed another successful season.
Affectionately known as the Sappers, the last year has seen the team put out impressive performances in a challenging league and cup competition.
Having scooped the British Army's Lawson Cup for 15 consecutive years between 1995 and 2010, the Sappers looked strong contenders to pick up the title again.
Although they secured a number of impressive victories - including running out more than 60 points without conceding a single try against Royal Logistics Corps - unfortunately, the might of their competitors proved too strong to take the win this time.
As current Army Corps Champions, the Sappers also got to represent the army in the Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy against a tough Crosfields XIII side. A tight game was played out at Halliwell Jones Stadium, the home of Warrington Wolves, which saw the Sappers narrowly miss out on the top prize.
The season was topped off with a celebration at Ripon City Golf Club, which representatives from FAUN Trackway attended.
We have a long history with the Royal Engineers, who took the first order of TRACKWAY more than four decades ago. We've developed a strong partnership with the force and they continue to use our portable aluminium roadways and runways today.
The Rugby League struggles to gain leverage against higher profile sports and FAUN Trackway's ongoing support is vital in making the Sapper's season financially viable.
Its sponsorship in 2012 allowed the team to purchase new kit and training equipment, and enabled 40 players to complete a pre-season training week to get them ready and raring from the off.
